In 2006, the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois created HLAI Charities, a 501(c)(3) organization, to formalize and expand its historic commitment to philanthropic pursuits within the community. HLAI Charities now serves as the charitable arm of the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois. Donations to HLAI Charities are used for a number of notable purposes. Key events are:
Annual Day of the Dead Masquerade Ball - First Friday in November
This is a one of a kind cultural affair! Profits from this event benefit Hispanic student members of the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois' JD Mentors Program by providing them with scholarships, fellowships and other academic-related financial assistance while they attend college or law school. Past events featured a veritable array of unique hors d'oeuvres and desserts, an event-influenced buffet with light dinner fare, an open bar stocked with premium beverages, an impressive display of artwork inspired by the Day of the Dead and created by notable local artists, and live music. Monetary donations for this student-focused event are accepted year round.
Annual Holiday Basket Drives - Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter
The Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois holds Holiday Basket Drives up to three times per year to arrange donations of food and other necessities to low income members of the Hispanic community. Monetary donations for this community-focused event are accepted year round.
