The Office of the State Appellate Defender has an opening for a Staff Attorney at the Illinois Juvenile Defender Resource Center, located in Springfield, Illinois. The Staff Attorney will provide support and training to public defenders and appointed counsel representing youth in the delinquency and criminal justice systems. This position includes, in collaboration with the Director: a strong focus on designing and presenting continuing legal education programming to juvenile defenders; composing and editing publications, newsletters, and sample legal documents related to juvenile justice; responding to inquiries from juvenile defenders; and maintaining expertise in the area of juvenile law.

Candidates must be graduates of an ABA accredited law school and be licensed in Illinois or be able to obtain an Illinois license. Candidates must have experience representing or working with youth in the delinquency or criminal justice system. Training or teaching experience is preferred. A valid driver’s license and occasional travel is required.
Start date: December 16, 2019.
Starting salary is $59,000 with State of Illinois employee benefits.
