Description
WTTW (Chicago PBS) and WFMT (Classical radio) are seeking a full-time Senior Legal Counsel to provide general oversight and legal supervision over all company legal and business affairs operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide legal counsel to senior management with respect to transactional, regulatory, general corporate, FCC, labor and human resources, intellectual property, compliance and other legal matters.
Advise on copyright, trademark and other intellectual property issues related to programs, products and services.
Provide risk management and litigation management.
Manage relationship with outside counsel.
Lead station’s labor relations, including the negotiation of employee talent agreements, labor contracts and collective bargaining agreements (IBEW, SAG/AFTRA, AFM, DGA).
Advise on personnel issues and draft documents related to those issues.
Oversee governance matters and corporate record keeping.
Provide legal counsel, negotiate, and draft agreements for all business units in a variety of business dealings including the development, production and distribution of multi-media content (television broadcast, web and radio broadcasting).
Work cross-functionally with the business units to support current business operations, and provide strategic thought partnership on innovative approaches and solutions to accomplish business objectives.
DEMONSTRATED EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 15 years’ experience with relevant legal experience.
Experience in TV Broadcast/Radio Broadcast and digital platforms.
Experience in union negotiations and managing external counsel.
Contract drafting and negotiation.
Work with intellectual property law.
Corporate transactional work.
Knowledge of FCC, labor and employment laws.
SKILLS: Candidate will be a strategic thinker, with strong negotiation skills. They will have strong interpersonal and writing skills. Candidate will be creative, highly motivated and a team player. They will be a self-starter, with the ability to multi-task competing priorities effectively. The candidate will possess excellent judgement and decision making skills. They will also have flexibility and tolerance for ambiguity.
EDUCATION: Juris Doctorate required. IL Bar Membership.
