Judicial Evaluations Committee
HLAI participates on the Alliance of Bar Associations. The Alliance is comprised of 12 bar associations that collaboratively evaluate judicial candidates. HLAI participates in the judicial evaluation process as a part of the Alliance to ensure that judicial candidates seeking appointment or election to the bench as well as retention of a judicial seat are carefully evaluated for their legal ability, moral character, impartiality, fitness to serve on the bench, and sensitivity to diversity issues. The evaluations are conducted at the request of the Illinois Supreme Court, the Chief Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County, or for upcoming elections. Evaluation results concerning elections are posted at http://www.voteforjudges.org.
The important work of HLAI’s JEC cannot be effectively undertaken without the engaged participation of many members. Dozens of candidates seek evaluation each year requiring thorough investigation, interviews, and evaluation on the part of HLAI’s JEC members. The committee is actively seeking members for the new evaluation cycle. HLAI members who are interested in participating should contact the Committee at jec@hlai.org.
