About the Position
Kent Law Partners LLC is a growing immigration law firm in Schaumburg, Illinois, focused on removal defense and immigration court litigation. We are seeking an Associate Attorney to represent clients before the Immigration Courts, USCIS, and other immigration agencies.
Our clients come from many countries and language backgrounds. The Associate Attorney will handle a general immigration and removal defense caseload, and professional fluency in Spanish is required so that the attorney can communicate directly with Spanish-speaking clients as part of that caseload.
This is a hands-on litigation role. From the start, the Associate Attorney will appear in court, handle direct client contact, and take substantive responsibility for case strategy, research, and writing, working closely with experienced immigration attorneys and a multilingual support team.
Responsibilities
- Represent clients in removal proceedings before the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR), including Master Calendar Hearings, Individual Merits Hearings, and bond hearings
- Prepare and litigate asylum, withholding of removal, and Convention Against Torture (CAT) claims
- Handle cancellation of removal, adjustment of status, and other forms of relief from removal
- Draft motions, legal briefs, appeals, and other immigration court filings
- Conduct client consultations and prepare clients and witnesses for hearings and interviews
- Review immigration records, criminal records, and supporting documentation
- Conduct legal research involving immigration statutes, regulations, BIA decisions, and federal court decisions
- Communicate directly with clients from diverse backgrounds, in English and, where needed, in Spanish
- Work with paralegals and the legal team to manage cases, deadlines, and electronic case files
- Assist with other immigration matters before USCIS, ICE, and DHS as needed
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school
- Active attorney in good standing with the bar of at least one U.S. state
- Professional fluency in English and Spanish, including the ability to communicate with clients in Spanish without an interpreter
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
- Confidence appearing in court and advocating for clients
- Ability to independently manage multiple cases, hearings, and deadlines
- Comfort working in a primarily electronic legal environment, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), PDF/document-management tools, and electronic court filing systems
- Ability to learn and use ECAS, USCIS online filing systems, immigration case-management software, and LexisNexis and/or Westlaw
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred but not required: prior immigration law experience, particularly removal defense, asylum/withholding/CAT, or bond hearings; experience drafting immigration motions, briefs, or appeals; client and witness preparation; and courtroom or other litigation experience.
Attorneys with strong research and writing skills who want to build substantial immigration litigation experience are encouraged to apply.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: $80,000 – $120,000 per year, commensurate with experience
- Paid time off
- Full-time, in-person position at our Schaumburg, Illinois office
