Position Summary:
The School of Justice and Public Safety at Southern Illinois University Carbondale invites applications for one or more variable time (1-2 classes per semester) Clinical Assistant Professors to contribute to the school’s American Bar Association (ABA)-approved Paralegal Studies program. These are term, non-tenure track faculty position with an anticipated appointment date of August 16, 2023.

SIU Carbondale’s Paralegal Studies program dates back to 1983 and provides higher education opportunities to students interested in pursuing careers in the legal field, either as paralegals immediately upon earning their bachelor’s degree or as attorneys after completing a law degree (the program offers a dual degree with the SIU School of Law). Paralegal Studies courses are taught online and on-campus.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The individual will teach 1-2 face-to-face and/or online courses within the Paralegal Studies curriculum and may develop coursework in a substantive legal specialty area.  Direct face-to-face instruction may require evening assignments. Faculty will be required to hold office hours (remote as approved).

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must:

-Possess a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school and knowledge of the paralegal profession.
-Have demonstrable experience working as or with paralegals (please explain in cover letter).

Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred qualifications include:

-An active law license (admitted to and in good standing with a state bar).
-College-level teaching experience.
